Our beloved, Martha Adamcik Hill Povse, age 95, long-time resident of Austin, was called by our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. She was born on November 8th, 1916 to Adolph and Magdalena (Vacek) Adamcik and grew up on the family farm near La Grange, Texas.
She married Samuel B. Hill and moved to Austin, Texas after his death in 1982. She married Frank C. Povse, and continued to live in south Austin after his death. Martha was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had many dear friends and was a devoted Catholic. She welcomed everyone into her home and if you went away hungry from visiting it would be your own fault.
Later in life, Martha enjoyed volunteer work at hospitals and her senior citizen groups. She played a rowdy game of chicken foot dominoes which she usually won.
Martha was well known for her cooking skills; especially her award winning kolaches and her claim to fame was the invention of the “pig in the blanket kolache.”
She will also be remembered as an avid gardener. She truly had a “green thumb” and could grow anything. She was awarded a ribbon for “yard of the month” in her south Austin neighborhood.
She received a 75 year pin from K.J.T. and K.J.Z.T., which made her a charter member.
Martha loved dancing to Czech and country music. She also loved to fish at Lake Limestone and also porch sitting and watching wildlife. She loved solving the world’s problems with her neighbor and best friend, Vera.
She was preceded in death by her son, Freddie Hill; husband, Samuel B. Hill; husband, Frank C. Povse; her parents, Adolph and Magdalena Adamcik; stepmother, Henrietta; brothers, Charlie, Leon, Edwin, Adolph, Lawrence, Jerry, John, Felix, Joseph, Edward; and sisters, Helen and Lil.
Martha is survived by her children, Samuel T. Hill and wife, Dorothy, Thomas M. Hill and wife, Monika and Marylin Holmstrom and husband, Russ; sisters, Florence and Lucy; brothers, Frank and Ben; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-grandson on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 6:00 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2011 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
