She was born to the late William Donald and Ann Eastman, November 10, 1929, in Port Arthur, Texas. Marty graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1947 and received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1952.
She married Richard Castleberry in 1952, and they raised a family in Port Arthur, Texas for forty years before relocating to Austin, Texas in 1992.
Marty was a loving mother, wife, teacher, and volunteer. After graduating from college, she was a full-time teacher in the Port Arthur Independent School District from 1952 – 1960 and later worked as a substitute teacher. She was a Den Mother for each of her sons and a member of the Service League in Port Arthur. She was very active in PEO and her church in both Austin and Port Arthur serving in many roles. She and Richard were volunteers at Manos de Cristo's Food Pantry from 1992 until her death.
Marty's life was the purest example of unselfish service and love. She was the true matriarch of her family, was tireless in her support of all, and poured endless amounts of unconditional love on her husband, boys, and especially her grandchildren. Marty's life outside her family included only service and volunteerism. Always the first to volunteer and chip in, Marty shunned any bit of recognition. Marty was always there to serve, help out, support, love, console, encourage, cheer up, and especially to provide a guide on how one should live a life of giving.
Marty is survived by her husband, 3 children, 4 grandchildren, a brother, and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 8 at 2pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to the Manos de Cristo Food Pantry that she gave so much of her time. (manodecristo.org)
