Marlene is preceded in death by her parents Thomas Jefferson and Helen Marie Sowers and her husband Thomas Nelson Tackett III. She is survived by her sister Mary Ann Sowers, her children, and her grandchildren Ginger, Molly, James, and Faythe.
She earned her Bachelors from Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois and her Master's in English Literature at Stanford University. She worked at a publishing company before her boss introduced her to his brother, Tom, who later became her husband. Marlene then became a homemaker, a job she really enjoyed.
She has lived in New York, Switzerland, Connecticut and finally Austin.
Marlene enjoyed traveling immensely. She and Tom took many trips throughout the years including The Grand Canyon, Civil War Battlefields, Canada, Europe, and an Alaskan cruise. They lived in Switzerland for Tom's job, when Elise was born. Marlene often referred to that time as "the best time of her life."
When the family moved to Austin, Marlene enjoyed volunteering at the LBJ library where she made lifelong friends.
Marlene was a sweet lady who was loved by all her knew her. She will be missed.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31st at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar. Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Graveside services will be on Monday, April 3rd at the Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney.
