Mark Edward Camp

Mark Edward Camp was born on May 1, 1967. On Friday the 13 of October, after a long, hard fight, Mark succumbed to his injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in March. All who knew Mark knew he was a fighter and a tough motherf***er, and he was to the very end.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Camp, and his brother, Michael Camp. He is survived by his loving Mother, Shirley Camp, siblings Patricia Camp Berry, Catherine Camp Jewel, Melvin "Joe" Camp, John Camp and his wife Kara Camp.

Mark became an uncle at the young age of five, and was known as "Uncle Mark" by nieces and nephews Melissa, Keith, Kelly, Kristin, Matthew, Ryan, Erin, Madelin, Caroline, Austin and Madison, 11 great nieces and nephews, and two great-greats.

Growing up, Mark was an avid soccer player, earned a black belt in Karate, and spent untold hours working out at the gym. He studied at UT and graduated from San Angelo State University. He went on to manage many restaurants, oversee the construction of a new Applebee's in Holland, and was a lead salesperson at IBM.

Despite his tough exterior, Mark had a heart of gold. He was fiercely loyal to those he cared about, and a protector of all. He was generous with his time, love and money. He always kept his word when he made a promise.

Mark was gregarious,with a boisterous personality. He loved giving bear hugs, lifting you right off the ground. He never met a stranger. If he called you a friend, you were a friend for life.

As much as Mark loved his friends and family, his true passion was animals. From raising homing pigeons with his father as a young boy, to bringing home snakes and other critters, to nursing injured birds and squirrels back to health ... Mark had a soft spot for them all. His first dog, Fury, was the love of his life.

In 2014, Mark followed his true calling, when he and then wife Teri opened Camp Zoo & Pet Ranch, a pet boarding facility in southwest Austin. Mark's pride and joy, Camp Zoo continues to be a thriving business, focusing on love, play and freedom for all their boarder's and daycare pups. Mark's dream and legacy lives on ... his final wish.

Even though his time on this Earth had to end, Mark has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, gone to take care of all of the animals there.

Mark, you will never be forgotten. You will always be a light in our lives that will never burn out.

A visitation for Mark will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749.
