I apologize for the delay, but I just now have the opportunity to add my thoughts about your precious mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was one of the sweetest and most considerate persons I have ever known.  Knowing that she was a military spouse, made us even closer.  We often talked about places where we had been stationed  and places we had visited.  She was a very astute card player too, and much loved by her fellow players.  Indeed she will be missed greatly. Dear Lee and Nina, Jamie and Ric

Our deepest condolences and heartfelt love for you and your children and grandchildren on the loss of such an incredible lady.  Lee's eyes would light up and he'd smile like crazy as he told us stories about Marilyn and Johnie.  We'll be thinking of you and your families and our prayers will be with you as you celebrate the life of this wonderful woman!  Godspeed her on her journey, and may he help heal the loss you are all feeling.

Marilyn was exactly what I have read in other comments about her.  I knew her mostly as a canasta player.  When I played with her or against her I knew she put her heart in it but with a quiet resolve.  I loved playing at her table.

When I think of Aunt Marilyn I think of what an amazing cook she was but more than that she was an incredible person, so sweet, thoughtful and caring of others.  In the 80's she and Uncle Johnie helped Ronnie and I move in our first house.  Uncle Johnie setting up beds so the kids would have a place to sleep that night.  Mom and Aunt Marilyn unpacking and organizing the kitchen, of course. Occasionally I was lucky enough to be there to help with their annual stuffed jalapeno sessions.  Course all I was instructed to do was place the trays in the freezer to chill, how funny, but "I helped"!  Before it was time for me to leave Aunt Marilyn would summon me, Kitten come in here a minute. To her room we would go  and she began to go thru her clothes to send home with me.  Now mind you, I am 5'4, not petite, small back then but still 5'4.  Anyway, she always sent me home with a new wardrobe.  I loved it!  When it was jelly making time I would get my call to come pick up several jars.  She knew how much I loved hot and spicy. Next she and Uncle Johnie came up with hot dill pickles.  Oh those were so good. When Uncle Johnie thought they had set long enough and were just right Aunt Marilyn would make the call.  They both were so thoughtful and giving of others.  
My birthday Aunt Marilyn came and we all went to The Cheesecake factory and went to play Bingo afterwards.  Donna and I laughed at her til we were crying.  We almost got kicked out because our table was so loud.  She thought they were going too fast and she was all flustered.  Well in the early years (80's) I use to go play bingo  with her and Mom.  They were serious about their bingo.  I would get a card and they would make me put it back because it had B13 in the corner. You never win if B13 is in the corner.  Oh, ok.  Finally, I just had them pick them for me.The two of them were unstoppable! So many fun times and priceless memories she has made for each and every one of us in one way or another.  She was just that "special" and I will forever miss her.

To Jamie and your beautiful family,
I was so saddened to hear about your mom's illness and passing.  She was such an amazingly sweet, smart lady.  Although I only met her a couple of times here in GA, I felt as though I had known her forever.  She reminded me so much of my mom...always upbeat and ready to go.  I really loved her!  Know that I am thinking of you always.  God bless!

When I think of Marilyn I think of a fabulous cook who loved to share recipes with all of us.  She loved to get a group together to cook dinner or can Fredericksburg peaches or whatever anyone wanted to prepare. 
She always treated me like family and cared about what was going on and supported me when I had a medical issue. 

Another side of Marilyn was her zest for fun!  She loved  to go!  She was a gambler and frequented several casinos and loved the slots.  She always had to place a bet on Bobby's racehorses and was always so excited when she won.  

She was a very diverse special lady that we loved dearly and will miss!

When we talk about Aunt Marilyn you have to talk about a fabulous cook, someone who had great stories
to tell from around the world and as I came to learn first hand, a great shopper!!  Mother and Aunt Marilyn
together would have so much fun cooking for themselves, and especially all the family gatherings once 
Marilyn and Johnie moved back to Austin.  They would spend endless hours  in  the kitchen making stuffed
jalapenos, crab cakes and delicious desserts - it was just fun to watch them cook together, tell stories and prepare
such wonderful meals!!  
Aside from the cooking, I remember going to visit Aunt Marilyn in San Antonio when I had to have a special dress or
it was time for new clothes before going to college --  Since Mother was not the shopper, we would go to
San Antonio and Aunt Marilyn would take us all shopping -- One of the stores that I remember most was
in an old 7-11 store right off of San Pedro Street --  Cookies was the name of the store --  It has the best brands
of clothes at greatly reduced prices and they all knew Aunt Marilyn by name when we would go there to shop --
Athough the store has long been closed, I still remember those fun shopping sprees at "Cookies" --We would go
there and spend hours trying to find the "perfect" outfit.  
 
We have all been truly blessed to have had Aunt Marilyn in our lives - she was such wonderful Lady!!

What a gift Juner & I have had with both Johnie & Marilyn. In addition to having a new brother & sister in law. we/I had two devoted friends. My husband died March 4, 2011, but prior to that we had 40+ years of wonderful companionship with the convenience of living in the same community! We shared traveling. golf, dinner parties, rival ship of football between UT & A & M& mixed into all of that...a little blood, sweat. tears of both sadness & joy! My husband was sincerely blessed to have had a brother AND SISTER in Johnie & Marilyn & to have shared that blessing with me & our family for 61+ years. May God bless their souls.

I am Lee's daughter and wanted to share some thoughts about Manoo.  

She and I had a special bond.  I remember her laugh and she was always smiling.  She was always interested in what was going on in my life and excited for the adventures I was on.  She supported me through my loss five years ago, my two times in college and even as she was dealing with her diagnosis she was very concerned about me and my surgery I had a month ago.  I called her the day after surgery and Aunt Jamie said that Manoo almost knocked her over trying to get to the phone to speak with me!  

Dad shared with me the other night a story that Manoo shared with him.  She and Poppy had come to stay with Rob and I while mom and dad were on vacation and she remembered that one of those days I didn't want to go to school and she knew that.  So she said I could stay home with her and never told mom and dad!  I had forgotten that one and it made me smile thinking about it.

 I loved watching golf with her.  She would always have to explain the shots (birdie, eagle, etc) to me and each time she explained it just like it was her first time.

I can't forget to mention how good of a cook she was and I especially loved her jalapeño jelly.  Right before Poppy passed I spent several weekends in Austin with them and I remember she pulled out a jar of jelly that she had saved just for me!

She is a strong lady!  She affected each person in her life in such a strong and profound way.  I am blessed and honored to say that I am her granddaughter and she is my grandma, Manoo.  I love her and always will.

So many things come to mind when I think of Marilyn. She has been like the sister I never had for 70 yrs, Even before she & Johnie married.
I've always admired her as an example of what a wonderful, patient wife, mother & dear friend she was. I will miss her terrible but have nothing but loving memories of her.

I was Marilyn's CPA for several years.  She was a very lovely, sweet lady.  I am sorry she won't be with me this next tax year.

I met Marilyn through her beautiful daughter, Jamie Griffiths.  When Marilyn came to visit Jamie in GA she participated in many of our book club activities; meetings, luncheons, dinners and parties.  She was considered an honorary member of BookBuds.  Marilyn's vibrant personality and fabulous sense of humor made her a joy to be with and we will miss her so very much.  Sending much love and many prayers to the family at this very difficult time.

Marilyn created so many fond memories for each of us that it is difficult to pick out a favorite.  One of my personal favorite was when she joined us for a black tie and boot cattle sale in the ballroom of the Houston Oaks Hotel.  Dressed in evening gowns and furs, she and JoAnn walked through pens of Texas Longhorns sipping Champaign and looking like the owned the place.
She was one of Texas' great ladies and we are proud to have shared many fun times throughout the past forty plus years.
She will be missed and always loved by a world of friends and family.
