Marilyn was born in Austin, Texas to Tiny and Joseph B. Taylor on September 8, 1926. She was a (1943) graduate of Austin High School and married her high school sweetheart, Johnie L. Reeves on April 24, 1945. The following 30 years were spent making a home and raising their two children in various cities around the country, as she supported her husband’s military career. The couple retired to their beloved Austin in 1975.
Marilyn was an avid golfer and was a lifetime member of Balcones Country Club. She won several tournaments as a military wife, at her home club and around the state of Texas. Marilyn was known as a tenacious competitor and a gracious winner. She enjoyed the thrill of an occasional bet on her nephew's horses or a trip with friends to the slots in Louisiana. She also had a passion for playing cards. Many days would find her engaged in a game of bridge or canasta with any number of groups of her longtime friends.
Above all she was devoted to her family. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt she was a pillar of strength, an insightful and wise counselor and always a gentile lady.
Mrs. Reeves was preceded in death by her husband, Johnie, sisters Marjorie Moore, JoAnn Barnett and Nancy Marschall. She is survived by her loving children, Jamie Lyn Griffiths and husband Ric of Peachtree City, GA, Perry Lee Reeves and wife Nina of McKinney, TX. , sisters-in-law Ruth Jones of Austin, Peggy Grona of Ft Worth, grandchildren Chris Sublette and wife Leanne, Marc Sublette and fiancé Robin Ley, Tiffany Menard, Rob Coffey, six great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice Austin on behalf of the Reeves family for all of the loving care they provided Mrs. Reeves.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 am at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road.
