Marilyn Prengler died on March 3, 2016, in Austin, Texas, of cancer. She was born June 26, 1953, in Dallas, the daughter of Hershel and Sylvia Milder Prengler, both of whom predeceased her. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1975 and remained in Austin, working as an independent massage therapist.
Her career in the healing arts touched the lives of some of the most notable and interesting people of her era, including those in the world of music, dance, cinema and the creative arts, business, and politics. She was a warm and generous friend. A child of survivors of the Holocaust, she displayed great love for her family and had an abiding interest in their history. She loved to travel and until health concerns limited her activities, she swam at Barton Springs daily and played tennis regularly.
She had many friends who loved her dearly and were strongly influenced by her unique perspectives. In addition, she took great interest and joy in the new friendships she made with people she encountered, even during the most difficult days of her illness. She was extremely grateful to Dr. Lynne Knowles and the entire staff at Texas Oncology, Dr. Robert Markus and the many doctors, nurses, technicians, supporting staff and volunteers at St. David's South Austin Medical Center.
Surviving Marilyn are her sister Dorothy Prengler and husband Charles Snakard of Dallas, her brother Michael Prengler and wife Sharon of Los Angeles, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas, with a reception immediately afterward at Weed-Corley-Fish North Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd. For those wishing to remember Marilyn, in lieu of flowers feel free to consider a contribution to the Dallas Holocaust Museum or a charity of your choice.
