Marilyn Carol Drew, age 67, was born on April 30, 1947, in Kermit Texas, and passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014, after a brief illness. She was a loving mother, sister, and aunt. She spent the last 8 years in several nursing and rehab facilities due to physical disabilities. She was always everyone’s friend and a joy to people she met. She was her sister Cheryl’s best friend and they shared everything together.
The majority of her life she worked for the Internal Revenue Service and the United States Post Office as a clerk and retired several years ago. Marilyn was a Christian and knew Our Lord Jesus Christ. She knew she had a place in heaven and was not afraid of death because she knew that she would be with her family once again and would feel only happiness and be free from pain forever.
Marilyn’s pride and joy was her son, Damon Wayne Drew. She raised Damon with love and kindness and was always so proud of him whatever he did. She had three extremely gorgeous granddaughters, Amanda, Kaitlyn, and Reagan, whom she loved dearly. I am sure her wishes would be that through pictures and stories that they hear from their Dad that they will remember their grandmother who wasn’t able to visit them but loved them with all her heart. Marilyn would say if she could that she would want us to remember her smiling, and try to forget anything that she might have said that hurt someone. She had great times and like everyone else sometimes heartache, but most of her life was filled with love and laughter. She was the best sister in the world and I will miss being able to talk with her and tell her things that I could never tell anyone else. The only thing that makes my pain feel better is knowing that she is waiting for me to join her in heaven someday. I know she will welcome me at the gate. In our hearts, a memory will always be kept, of the one we loved, and will never forget.
Marilyn is survived by her son, Damon Wayne Drew and his wife, Danetta, and their three daughters. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Cheryl Limas, and brother-in-law, Roel Limas; her nieces, Julie LePage and husband, Sam, Jordan, Kayleigh, and Sydney; nephews, Jacob, Christopher Espiritu and wife, Letty, and their daughters, Amaya and Gabi. Marilyn had several aunts, uncles and cousins that she loved dearly. Special thanks to Aunt Melba for always being there for her and making her laugh everyday.
Marilyn is preceded in death by both her parents; her only brother, James Drew; and his son, Nicholas.
Family and friends will gather together to celebrate Marilyn’s life at 11:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
