Marilyn Louise Nauert Almond

Marilyn Louise Nauert Almond was 88 years old when she passed away April 9, 2017. She was a lovely woman and lively soul right up to the week preceding her death. She lived in the Magnolia Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Luling, Texas at the time of her death, but she was a lifelong Austinite, and very proud to be one.

She was born in Austin on October 13, 1928 at Brackenridge Hospital to her parents Martin "Cotton" and Erna Krueger Nauert. She was the oldest of four Nauert children and is survived by her sister, Lovey Nauert Driskell of Harwood, Texas, brothers Clifton Nauert of Austin, Texas and George Nauert of Mead, Washington along with their families.

Her entire life and education was spent in Austin; attending Esperanza Elementary School, Baker and University Junior High School, and Austin High School where she graduated at the age of 16. She was an exceptional student and also enjoyed her role as a viola player in the high school orchestra. From Austin High she moved directly to the University of Texas where she studied pharmacy and graduated in 1949 as one of only two female pharmacists in her class. She worked as a pharmacist for 30 years, always in Austin, serving her community in numerous ways.

She met Raymond Almond on a city bus after he returned from service in World War II. They married at Saint Martin's Lutheran Church on July 23, 1948 and enjoyed a full life of service to their church and home town. Their union produced four sons; Jake, Mark, Forrest and Ray Paul. Marilyn was a member of the Saint Martin's community for over 75 years-from Sunday School as a child to multiple efforts as an adult including: bible study, prayer groups, Boy Scouts, and the Lutheran World Relief Fund. Always a woman of faith, she also served her secular community as well through her efforts with the North Austin Lions Club. She built her life around her church, her family, her home and gardens all within a few miles of her birthplace.

Marilyn will be missed by all who knew her. She endured her hardships and losses with grace and great faith, endearing her to family and the friends who were lucky enough to know her. She is survived by her siblings as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, but preceded in death by her husband and sons with whom she is now reunited.

In celebration of her remarkable life, visitation will be April 17th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Her memorial service will be April 18th at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Austin at 2:00 pm, with a reception by the church community after her service. Interment will be at Cook Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville following the reception at St. Martin's.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be directed to the programs of St. Martin's that serve Marilyn's community of faith and her beloved city of Austin.
