Marie was born August 5, 1925 in Arcadia, Wisconsin to Mary Jankowski Lambert and Joseph Lambert. She was the oldest of 5 children and as such she was forced to grow up quickly at age twelve when their mother died. Marie kept their family together with help from her aunts while her father traveled with the railroad. After she completed high school, she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to work in an ammunition factory during World War II and it was there that she met a handsome navy lieutenant named Floyd Martine who was stationed in the Great Lakes region. Marie followed Floyd to Texas, only after purchasing a round trip ticket back to Wisconsin in case things did not work out. They married in 1944 and had their first son, Tom, a year later. After a few months the Martines moved to Austin, Texas which would become their home. In 1947 they drove to Wisconsin with their young son and brought Marie's ten year old brother, Daniel, back to Texas to live with them. The Martines eventually had 3 more sons and 5 daughters, including twins, Don and Diane.
In 1949, Floyd and Marie purchased 6 acres of land in South Austin off Interstate 35 from the Texas author, J. Frank Dobie. Floyd built their home from reclaimed wood and materials from a navy barracks that he bought and tore down in Houston. This was to become the family home from 1950 until 2002 during which time Marie was a fulltime wife, partner to Floyd, home maker and volunteer at church, schools, and hospitals. She loved to entertain, cook, and sewed beautiful clothes for herself and the children. Floyd and Marie relocated to the Onion Creek subdivision where Marie continued to live following Floyd's death in 2004. As time progressed, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and ultimately was unable to live independently. Even through her last years, Marie was her cheerful self, always smiling and singing until the end.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Joe Lambert, her husband, Floyd Martine, her children Diane Martine Jacoby, Suzanne Martine Rohrer, Edward Martine, and granddaughter, Donna Martine. Marie is survived by her siblings, Joan Hafermann, Beverly Peters (Dan), Jack Lambert (Betty), all of Wisconsin and Dan Lambert (Nancy) of Giddings, Texas. She is also survived by children, Tom Martine (Carol) of Cypress Mill, Texas, Don Martine (Kathy) of Houston, Texas, Mary Jane Gongre (Eric) of Katy, Texas, Linda Kay Robards (Mike) of Bargersville, Indiana, Betty Lou Furlong (Jack) of Plano, Texas, Jim Martine (Michele) of Temple, Texas; son-in-law, John Rohrer (Joann) of Cypress, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
