Marie Marx Kretzschmar

Marie Marx Kretzschmar, 95 of Austin, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019. The family will be accepting guests at Cook Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Monday, August 5, 2019. Graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 10:00am with Dudley Marx officiating.

Marie was born on March 25, 1924 in Cedar Valley, Travis County, Texas to Otto and Annie (Rutter) Marx. She was blessed with 52 years of marriage to Marvin Kretzschmar before he passed. She was a hardworking homemaker, who also helped her husband in their earlier years cut and sell wood in addition to maintaining the family home. She enjoyed a simple life without much change. She looked forward to reading her daily newspaper and watching her birds, squirrels and cows. Her favorite pastime was scrapbooking and putting together photos and pretty pictures from wherever she found them. She enjoyed family history and keeping records of events as they occurred. She was very efficient at keeping records even in her 95th year. She was loved and will be missed for all the ways she touched our lives.

She is survived by her son, James Kretzschmar and wife, Debbie; granddaughter, Kelley Calderon and husband Santiago; great-granddaughters, McKenzie and Emma; brothers, Paulie Marx and Donald Marx and wife Nellie; nephews, Bill Marx, Kenneth Marx, and Keith Worrell; nieces, Bonnie Marx, Sandy Jones and husband Brian, Betty Fickel and husband Terry; and brother-in-law, Vernon Worrell.

Special thanks to her niece, Sandy, whom Marie thought of as a daughter and her nephew, Keith. The family also wants to thank long time family friend Mike Aielli, who kept in touch with her after her husband passed, with a monthly letter which she looked forward to reading. He faithfully sent her a monthly letter for 20 years and she kept every one. You may have thought it was a little thing, but it meant a lot to her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Kretzschmar; parents, Otto and Annie Marx; sisters, Molly Townsend and Rosie Worrell; and brothers, Harry Marx and Otto Marx, Jr.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards the wonderful staff of Christopher House. The attention and dignity they gave her in her last days were greatly appreciated.
