Maria was a courageous, determined individual who immigrated to the US from Germany where she met her husband Joe in New York. After various moves throughout Joe’s Army career, they settled down in Chicago, where Maria pursued a profession in Corporate Administration and Accounting for over 30 years. This prepared her for the next chapter of her life with her husband of co-owning and actively managing the family business, Split Rail RV Park & Resort in Mission, Texas. After the passing of her husband, Maria fully took over all operations continuing the success of the Resort. Her unwavering passion for excellence and putting the Resort residents as the highest priority was always her philosophy.
Maria is survived by her son, Stephen Polonski and his family, her brother Helmut Klein, sister Erika Schricker, sister-in-law Cecile Klein, dearest niece Caroline Martin and many more nephews, nieces and their children both here in America and Germany who looked up to Maria as the matriarch of the family.
Maria’s visitation was held privately by the family in Austin on January 18, 2024, and her graveside service will be held on February 2, 2024, at 10:00 am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, where she will lay to rest with her husband, Joseph Polonski.
