Margaret "Jinx" Lacey passed away early Saturday, February 7th, at Brackenridge Hospital as a result of a tragic accident. Jinx was also known as Ms. Lacey by countless number of kids she called her own at her beloved McNeil High School, and was sweetly known as "Granj" by her family. Jinx was born March 6, 1939, to Gerald and Karleen Williams in Sweetwater, Texas. She graduated from McCallum High School, Austin, Texas, in 1957. Jinx attended the University of Texas in Austin and later graduated with her Master's in Education from Texas A&M University in College Station. While she dearly loved both universities, come Thanksgiving Day, she proudly wore her Burnt Orange. Jinx has three daughters ("her girls") whom she loved and enjoyed, but it was those eight grandchildren that were the absolute joy of her life. If you knew Jinx, you knew it took no prompting whatsoever for her to share a story about her little dumplings. When her first grandchild was born in 1986, she wanted to be called "Grand Jinx," that evolved into the beloved "Granji," and later "the Granj" by her grandsons and sons-in-law—or as she called them, "her S-I-Ls." If there was a place she loved as much as being with her family, it was McNeil High School in Round Rock, Texas. Jinx was a founding faculty member opening the doors of McNeil HS in 1992. As a crisis support counselor for 17 years, she was a solid foundation for many students and faculty who passed down her hallway and through her office. Jinx found a lifetime of friends during her years at Riverbend Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, attending Sunday school and bible studies, and facilitating Christian trainings for students and parents alike. She also enjoyed volunteering at Vacation Bible School. Jinx brought joy to all she met in her Riverbend family. Jinx was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Karleen Williams, her sister Chima Lee Clanton, and her brother "Cuppy" Williams. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Kim and Gary Alexander, Susan and Steve Jones, and Laura and Stephen Wessels. Her true joys, her grandchildren: Katelin East and her husband Brad, Jake Alexander, Lacey and Ryan Jones, Christopher Dunn, and Ashlynn and Alyssa Wessels. She is also survived by her brother Jerry Williams, his wife Denise, and their daughter Alexis; by her brother-in-law Buz Clanton and his children, Kerry and Leah; and by her precious friends whom she loved and cherished. A celebration of Jinx's life will be held Saturday, February 21st, at Riverbend Church, 4214 Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, Texas 78746. (512-327-3540). Visitation will be in the Fellowship Hall from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at which time family and friends will proceed to the Home for Hope for the "Celebration of Jinx's Life" at 4:00 p.m. Jinx would want us to celebrate with color and cheer, so please feel free to dress accordingly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be donated to the Jinx Lacey Memorial Scholarship Fund at McNeil High School, 5720 McNeil Drive, Austin, Texas 78729.
