Louise Moen Hamilton, age 99, of Austin, Texas, died on Monday morning, November 6, 2006. Louise was born March 9, 1907 to Rosine Preus and Marcus Moen in Calmer, Iowa. Her father immigrated from Norway as an infant and her mother was a first generation descendent of Norwegian immigrants. Her childhood was spent in this small Iowa town with her two brothers and two sisters, experiencing the pre-electric, pre-indoor plumbing lifestyle of early America. Her family moved to Mason City, Iowa in 1919. After graduation from Mason City High School, Louise attended Mason City Junior College for two years, was book keeper for her father's contracting business for two years, then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics in 1930. It was at Iowa State University she met her future husband Samuel C. Hamilton. They were married in October of 1930, moved to Birmingham, Alabama where they lived for 10 years and where their three sons were born. In October, 2000 Louise and Sam celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary. Her husband's business took them to Houston where they lived seventeen years, then Chicago and Hinsdale, Illinois for fourteen years. In 1971 she and her husband moved to Lakeway, Texas and enjoyed a wonderful life for 25 years. The last years of her life were spent at Westminster Manor in Austin. Louise had a zest for life, wonderful sense of humor, was a loving wife and mother and proud homemaker. She had keen interests in and a love of music, bible study, languages, reading and the travels which took her to many parts of the world. She loved golfing, fly fishing, and hunting. She was a lifelong, dedicated supporter of Iowa State University and Chi Omega Sorority. Louise was widowed in January, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Sam, Jr., Paul and David and wife Catherine, one grandson, John, two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Alexis, and a great granddaughter, Jessica. Louise's life was one of contribution and fulfillment and sincere devotion to her Lord. She leaves this legacy to those who loved her dearly.
