Lorne’ Moran, 77, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, March 22nd, after a prolonged illness. She was born on June 30th, 1938 in Flint Michigan to Edward J. and Marion A. Duncan-Hall. She attended primary school in Flint, and middle school and high school at St. Mary Catholic School in Mt. Morris Michigan. After graduating from high school in 1958 with honors, she attended the University of Michigan, and chose to pursue a nursing career at St. Joseph Nursing School in southern Michigan.
Lorne’ was married to Donald J. Moran on April 17th 1960 in Chicago, Illinois. They were blessed with 55 years of married life. She continued her education and received her BA and MA from Chicago State University. She taught two years in Chicago public schools and 25 years teaching social studies and science at Hadley Middle School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She retired in 1993, after having received numerous accolades for outstanding teaching. The following year her husband Donald retired from his distinguished career as a principal in Chicago public schools. After one snowstorm too many, Lorne’ and Don moved to Austin, Texas in 1998 to enjoy sun and leisure. Lorne was able to pursue her lifetime passion of gardening. They enjoyed traveling, and for their 50th wedding anniversary they took a cruise of the Hawaiian Islands, and for their 55th anniversary they traveled to Puerto Rico along with their son and daughter-in-law Duval and Audrey Moran.
Lorne is survived by her loving husband, Donald Moran, her son and daughter-in-law Duval and Audrey Moran from Dixon, Illinois, her grandson Tyler and his wife Mellysa, and great grandson Conner from Rock Falls, Ill.; her sister Dr. Tyra Duncan-Hall, Austin TX, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and generations of cousins scattered throughout the United States.
The family would like to thank Hospice Austin for the kindness and competent care they provided Lorne’ while at home. Also the family appreciates the countless prayers, best wishes and acts of kindness from family and friends during this difficult time.
Rosary and visitation services will be held on Thursday, March 31st from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 North Lamar, Austin Texas, 78752. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 1st at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1610 E. 11th Street, Austin, TX, 78702. A celebration of her life will continue with a repast following the mass.
