She left Wharton to attend Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas. There she met her late husband, Ross Fowler. She went on to earn her B.A. and master’s degree in education and retired as a high school special education teacher. Her students sent cards, kept her updated and made visits well after she retired. Due to the passing of her parents she helped to raise her two youngest sisters Vivian and Anna and built two successful restaurants with her late husband. The Oak Tree and La Petite Maison were located in historic East Austin. She dedicated her life to assisting others, and her love and commitment to her family made her our family matriarch. She will be missed by all, and her legacy will live on through us.
She leaves to cherish her memories: sister, Wilma Jean Petitt Hill; brother, Roy S. Petitt; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
