Max graduated 1st in his class from Bedford High School in 1935. He was president of his graduating class in 1940 at St. Francis College. He married Guelda Sulser in 1942 in Cumberland, Maryland. He worked as a Chemist at Celanese Corporation, Pulp and Paper Company and Hercules Power Company in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He was a member of the American Chemical Society from 1942-1968. He moved with his family to Houston, Texas in 1965 and worked for Brown & Root until he “retired” in 1983. He worked as a Realtor as a member of Houston Associates of Realtors for 25 years with Century 21, Akerman and Co., Prudential Horizon, ERA, Henry S. Miller and Coldwell Banker.
He was a member of St. Cecelia's and St. Cyril's Parish in Houston, Texas. He was active in their ministry and choir. After moving to Austin he became a member of St. Thomas More.
Max, youngest of 12, was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 7 sisters, son-in-law Ronald Farkas and his beloved wife of 72 years, Guelda (Tess) Heming. Max is survived by his 2 daughters, Janet Thompson of Brentwood, Ca., her husband Richard Thompson, Barbara (Barbie) Houston of Austin, Tx., her husband Charles Houston, his grandchildren A. Scott Farkas, wife Laura, Canton, Ga, Kevin Farkas, wife Crystal, Plano, Tx, Leigh Sosebee, husband Daniel, Fort Worth, Tx, Jennifer (Jenny) Banks, husband Kyle, Austin, Tx, Samantha (Sam) Houston, Austin, Tx and C. Max Houston, Austin, Tx. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Cooper Farkas, Kailey Farkas, Kenzie Farkas, Madeline Sosebee and Easton Banks.
Max never met a stranger and anyone who knew him was better for it. He led a long, active life; full of love, laughter and faith and he passed those gifts on to everyone he touched. He was the "True North" of our family. Max was truly a good man, everyday; he is missed.
We will celebrate Max’s life on Friday, May 10, 2019 Rosary at 1:00pm, followed by Mass at 1:30 pm, procession to the Columbarium immediately after. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Associaton in Tess's name.
