Lee Roy was born to Otto and Ida (Oehler) Itz in Harper, Texas. He completed 6th grade and then helped his father with farm work. He served in the Army in World War II and returned and married his sweetheart Anita Lange on September 1, 1949. They were married 62 years when she passed away in 2011. They created a family with their three daughters. Lee Roy delivered bread for Butter Krust Bread Bakery in Fredericksburg, Texas and then in Austin, after the family moved there. He later worked for Austin Supply, a dry cleaning supplier, as a Warehouse Manager and retired from Nagel, a coat hanger supplier.
Family was very important to him. He and Anita attended their daughters' activities and continued supporting family by attending their grandchildren's and great- grandchildren's events as they could. Vacation time was spent traveling with the family to various US National Parks, camping and seeing the sights. After retirement, Lee Roy and Anita continued their travels, camping for a few years, then moving to bus tours. They loved entertaining family for holidays and special events and Lee Roy especially enjoyed watching all the children play. Lee Roy was a man of faith and read his Bible and devotion every day. He also dedicated time to church activities. He served on the Council, sang in the choir, drove the church bus and helped maintain the building and yard, mowing the grass into his 90's. In addition, Lee Roy loved to hunt deer. He enjoyed years of hunting with his father-in-law, then with his son-in-law and later with his grandson.
Lee Roy is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters and one grandson, Stephen Booker. He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Booker (David) of Fort Worth, Peggy Itz of Austin, and Audrey Cassle (Eddie) of Bay City; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with the 9th on the way; sister-in-law Theresa (Lange) Rode and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Tech Ridge Oaks Assisted Living for their love and care of Lee Roy, the staff at Ascension Seton Northwest for their competent, skilled care and especially Compassas Hospice, for their compassionate care and support of Lee Roy and the family.
