Charles Lee Farris, age 72, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023. Lee was born August 20, 1951, in Gilmer, TX, the youngest of three sons to Genie and L.G. Farris. He graduated from Gilmer High School in 1969 and attended the University of North Texas, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Business. Upon moving to Austin, TX, in 1975, Lee found his forever home.
For 20 years, he worked as a brick salesman for Elgin Butler Brick. He then formed his own company, Farris Brick, which continued to supply brick to the greater Austin area but expanded into a range of services for new and existing homes. Because of Lee’s lengthy tenure in the brick industry, he is responsible for providing the brick on several Austin landmarks, such as St. Edwards University; for any given brick structure in the city, it is highly likely he supplied the brick.
Lee was truly one of a kind- a rambunctious character who tried not to take life too seriously and enjoyed laughing with those in his company. He always lived life to the fullest and on his terms.
He loved restoring classic muscle cars, working outside, installing yard art, especially windmills, and collecting various antiques and other items that may not have had value to everyone but had value to him. However, he was happiest at his boat dock on Lake Austin. In his younger years, he would meet with friends in the early morning hours when the lake was like glass to go waterskiing. This love for the water continued throughout his whole life. As a result, he became affectionately known to many as the Captain or Mayor of Lake Austin.
He is survived by his three children, Travis of Dallas, Rachel (Cody) of Boston, and Tyler (Megan) of Austin; adored grandsons, Ford and Finn; brother, Gerald (Donna) of Longview; nieces Cynthia (Todd) of Lakeway and Sara of Longview; and beloved dog Tex. Lee eagerly anticipated the arrival of his granddaughter this summer, but sadly life had other plans. He will be tremendously missed and cherished always.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents, L.G. and Genie, and his brother, Max. His family takes comfort in knowing that with his passing, his faithful canine companions can now cross the rainbow bridge to be reunited with him.
A service and reception celebrating Lee will be held from 10 am to 1 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Weed, Corley, and Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX 78731.
