He was surrounded by love in his last hours with his brother Larry, sister Laura, and nephew Jordan and passed peacefully. In the month preceding his death, countless family, friends and coworkers came to visit with him and filled him with joy.
Layne was born in Texas City, Texas on April 10, 1959. He spent most of his life in his chosen hometown of Austin, Texas. Layne went to high school at Anderson High School and graduated in 1977 and attended college in East Texas. He worked for many years as a technician and supervisor working with business equipment and he loved his work. He also made many lifelong friends through his work and won many awards for his efforts.
Layne had a loving heart and also dedicated many years of his life to what always mattered most – his family. He enjoyed the happy and joyous years he had growing up. He faithfully cared for his mother during her battle with lung cancer, took care of his elderly grandmother many years and in her final days, and cared for his aunt in her final days too. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Layne is survived by his siblings; brother Larry Campbell, sister Laura Campbell; nephews and nieces; Jordan, Jenny, Jessica, Kristin, James, Jade and Rianna.
He was preceded in death by his father, David C. Campbell and mother, Joyce Norvell Campbell, and sister, Linda Chapman.
Pallbearers will include Billy Kendrick, Jason Berry, Matt McKenzie, Bobby Reece, and David Barnes.
Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5th at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX with same day graveside service at 2:30pm at Cook-Walden Cemetery at 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, TX with Reverend Lonnie Smith officiating.
