Lawrence W. Jones was born on May 20, 1911 to Charles Norman Jones and Josephine Calhoun Jones in St. Louis, Missouri. After a long and fulfilling life, he went to meet his Lord early Saturday morning on March 20, 2004, at the age of 92. His family surrounded him as he passed away. Larry was an avid adventurer. He rode the rails seeking employment during the Great Depression. He served in the United States Army in World War II. In his early 20s he and friend, Eddie Schleicher, sailed from St. Louis, on a 26-foot sailboat, down the Mississippi and continued on a round trip to Haiti and Cuba. Larry married Mary Elizabeth Johnson. He owned and operated Jones and Davis Appliance store in Clayton, Missouri. He and Elizabeth moved to Austin, Texas in 1963, where they enjoyed ranching and retirement. Elizabeth passed away in 1975. His sister Christine Jones Lischer, and his brothers, Herbert Jones, Ted Jones, Calhoun Jones, and Richard Jones preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Charles Jones and wife Ann, of Austin, Texas, John Thomas Jones and wife Sharon, of Waynesville, North Carolina, and Daryl Orberson, of Hillsborough, Missouri. His grandchildren, Tim, Brian, Carolyn, Colleen, Stephanie, Margie, Christie, Cassie, Cheryl and 6 wonderful great-grandchildren, also survive him. Larry also enjoyed the friendship of longtime companion, Edna Johnson, of Austin, Texas. The family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 with a Chapel Service beginning at 2:00 P.M. at Lupton Chapel in University City, MO.
