On December 22, 2014, LaVerne Louise (Heine) Hejl passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was 84 years old. LaVerne was born in Manor, Texas to Albert and Louise (Klaus) Heine. She graduated from Manor High School as class Valedictorian in 1948 and attended Nixon Clay Business College. She worked for the Texas Highway Department before marrying the love of her life, John Bryce Hejl. They met at an S.P.J.S.T. dance in Taylor, Texas and were happily married for 56 years.
She is survived and will be missed by her husband John, daughters Janet (Quinner) Williams and Diane Hejl of Austin, step-sons John Hejl of Austin and Bill Hejl of Florida, grandchildren Christina and Celeste Williams, Lillie (Doug) Cameron, all of Austin, Rebecca (Zach) Dunmire, Bonnie Hejl and Natalie Hejl, great-grandchildren Marcus Hejl, Camille and Conrad Dunmire, all of Florida, and many other relatives and friends.
LaVerne loved her family, her pets, cooking, flowers, gardening and Longhorn football. She will also be missed by her kitties and grand-dogs who are still waiting for her return. The sunset on the evening she crossed the bridge showed the beauty that was Mama. It also showed the joyful reunion for her and her parents, her little dog Harry and all the other pets in her life that she loved so much. As a mom, she was the absolute best, always putting others first. Because of her, our home was filled with love, laughter and many sweet and wonderful memories. She set a wonderful example for us to follow, making friends where ever she went. Her love of God saw her through the hard times and happy times; her faith in him never wavered.
Many thanks to Paula and Rita with Texas Home Health for their care and friendship and to the Seton ICU nurses and staff for their loving care for LaVerne in her last days.
Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Lamar location. Graveside memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Austin Pets Alive or the charity of your choice.
