He is survived by his wife Mary Christine who he loved very much and always said she was the best thing that ever happened to him. He is also survived by his son Larry Juergens and wife Emily, his daughter Jessica and husband Zach and their daughter Ella, his daughter Jennifer and husband Mike and their two sons Michael and Matthew, and his son Steve and wife Maria and their daughters Stephanie, Laura, and Esmeralda who all live in the Austin Area. Larry is also survived by his sister Tita Cavness and husband Charles of Houston, and sister Pud’n of Corpus Christi and San Miguel Allente.
After graduating from W.B. Ray High School in 1955, he served in The United States Army as a Field Artillery combat surveyor, and later as a tank gunner with the 90th Recon Division. After his Army service Larry graduated from Texas A & I in 1960 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, and in 1961with a Master’s of Science Degree. He also graduated from St. Mary’s University with a Masters of Arts Degree.
After college Larry worked for 15 years with Coastal States Gas Producing Company in both Corpus Christi and Houston, and its successor Valero Energy in San Antonio. Larry was then with the State of Texas with The Texas Rehabilitation Commission and the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitation Services for 23 years.
Larry is a member of St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church in Austin and is a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of The Corpus Christi Beachcombers’ Club, The Sigma Chi Fraternity and served as President of its Alumni Association in Corpus Christi. He was also a Board Member of The Coastal Bend on Alcoholism.
He was active with his son in the Boy Scouts of America, and had the honor of being inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He was also active with his daughter Jessica in FFA and 4 H Clubs as well as their many activities at St. Michaels Academy and college activities at Texas A & M University and St. Edwards University.
Larry loved to hunt, fish and sail, he and Mary would spend as much time as possible in these activities in Rockport. They also traveled over much of Mexico exploring most of the archaeological sites in the country.
Pallbearers are Dr. Edli Colberg, Dr. Zack Li, Paul Root, Dr. Ufot Umana, and Robert Staires.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2010, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2010 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
