He leaves his wife of 55 years, Mary Jane (Spencer) Dennis; his daughter, Jennifer Rodriguez; his son, Spencer Dennis; his son, John Dennis and his wife Alicia; grandchildren Kenneth, Claire and Addie Rodriguez; Charlie Dennis; Charlotte and Lillian Dennis; Morgan and Hope Booksh; and Shane and Luke Dennis; as well as 7 nieces, 2 nephews, brother-in-law James O. Spencer and his wife Joyce; and sister-in-law Fannie Dennis. He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest Arthur Dennis and Edith Edna Simmons Dennis; brothers Lawrence, Ernest and Charles; and sisters Arlene and Margaret.
He was born on March 1, 1930 in Tecumseh, Okla. He attended Tecumseh High School and Oklahoma Baptist University, receiving a bachelor of science in business. He met his wife, Mary Jane Spencer, when they were students in high school and they served on the student council together. They married on August 12, 1955. He honorably served his country in the United States Army in active duty from 1951 until 1953, and served in the Army Reserves until 1956. He received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Commendation Medal.
He was a member, Sunday school teacher and deacon at South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Tx.
As a businessman, he took pride in his work, starting his career at Farmers & Merchants Bank and moving to Federal National Bank before committing to Conoco Inc., leading the company through progressive changes for 28 years. He retired in 1985. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, fishing, and watching his sons and the Spurs play basketball. He was greatly loved and will be missed for his integrity and kindness.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, officiated by family friend, Rev. Krista Gregory.
