He graduated from the University of Texas School of Architecture in Austin in 1955 and, after working with several Austin architectural firms in Austin and receiving his license and registration, began his own practice, designing custom homes and commercial buildings in Austin and throughout Texas, including many long-term living/health facilities. He was a member of the Texas Society of Architects and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Forced to retire from his practice of architecture in 2013 because of advancing Parkinson's disease, he opted to retain his status of Architect Emeritus.
An avid UT football fan most of his life, he attended home games and watched others on TV.
He is predeceased by his father, Lester Aldrich, mother, Evelyn Barrow Aldrich, sister, Betty Brown, and brother, Lester Jr., a fighter pilot lost during WW II. Survivors include his wife, Irene; two sons, Jeff Aldrich and Steven Aldrich; two daughters, Diane Holland and Suzanne (Suzy) Barrick; three grandsons, Lt. Clayton Aldrich, Joshua Holland, and Dawson Holland; two granddaughters, Anna Aldrich and Madison Barrick; one great-grandson, Blane Aldrich, and one great-granddaughter, June Elise Cromeans; and many nieces and nephews.
