Eddy and I got to hang out the other day. We made sure to wish you a happy birthday and spent our hours together reminiscing about all the great times we had together. We shared a lot of laughs thinking about all of the crazy things we did and all of our fun memories.

Twenty-four years ago today, your mother said you were coming. We took her to St. David's hospital in Austin, Texas. The nurses and doctors said it was not time yet but that they were admitting your mom and for me and your brothers to go home and get your mom's personal items. 
 That's where we were going, as we crossed the bridge over Town Lake, when we got the call on my truck phone. It seems you wanted to get hatched at 5:37 pm on June 4, 1991. It seems you would always be that way, strong-willed and hard-headed.
 We turned around to come see you.
 Now, I really don't know what to say or whom to say it to or even if you can hear me. But...

Your birthday is coming up. I look forward to seeing you. I saw you on New Year's Day, and the weather was poor. Just as it's been every year since January first 2012.

It's been two years since you've been gone, Mi'ja. I miss you so much. I wish you could had been at Uncle Ronnie's for Christmas 2013, yet somehow I think you were there. I pray you're with the angels, baby girl.

If I could measure, the amount of times, or with the sincerity that I have wished you back, it would truly be baffling.
You always provided a wisdom, far beyond your years, and always so willing to help out a friend.
We all have those times in our life that we wish we could take back, or do differently, but when I think about times like that, these days it all seems like I could've spent more time with you, but didn't. I will forever regret the time in 7th grade, when I made you made and we didn't talk for 3 months. I think about us in middle school all the time. Sometimes I just walk to the school and look around and I am flooded with nostalgia. You were more than fun to be around Kelsmeister, I know you send me signs sometimes, and I'm too thankful for that. Even now you're still looking out for your friends.

When all of creation and our measure of time were created, there were forces set into being that would cause the universe to continue to unfold, time to lapse and events to occur that would determine our physical life span, as none of us would live forever. Thusly, our blip in time as physical beings in what will be all eternity was then determined, as was your time, my darling daughter. The unfolding of the universe may have been left to chance, you being here was not.
From that moment, He knew our fate and how many days we would live. Through our free will, it was left up to us to choose what we do with our time. By definition, and from His perspective, our fates were determined. Weren't they? In this strange paradox, it seems nothing we can do will change what God already knows will happen. Or can we? Even as I struggle to understand what has happened to you, apparently, this is how indiscriminately our days are measured and numbered. THIS was to be your time. To come to terms with this, I understand that you are with God now, and this allows a small measure of healing to have begun, albeit not very much because in my weakness I ache for you so much and it is so very hard to let go of you. I am told it's not suppose to be about that and our time here.
I cursed your untimely passing and I curse the pain of missing you but maybe it has taught me something about our collective and individual existence here, and that is, that we must better ourselves to Him and through Him. IN THIS, we CAN defy these odds and challenge our destiny for the good. Only then can we enjoy the true freedom He meant for us to have and the freedom YOU now possess.
Your job and time here are done. It is still left for us to continue to pray for His grace, love and mercy for us, for YOU and for all those who have gone before.
Therefore, it is paramount that our lives should have substance and meaning, second only to Him. In the very short time you were here among us, your life certainly did. You were pure of heart and spirit as all who knew you can attest. Throughout this past year and a half, even knowing this, it has been very difficult for me to find the same such meaning and purpose without you. If I had been more like you, maybe I could see the beauty in things, the way you always seemed to, this intrinsic beauty that was uniquely you and yours.
I was not ready for you to go, and I would never be. But, I was so very proud of you, what your life meant and so very proud to be your ‘Pops'.

It's been almost a year since you were so abruptly and violently taken from us.
Neither time nor the world waits for me to miss you or grieve for you.
I don't want a new year to start without you. It seems like I am leaving you behind.
I am overcome with the sense of total and utter futility. There are no appeals to be heard.
Nothing can bring you back but there was so much I needed to say to you, so many things to do.
It has done no good to curse the ugliness of this world that is without you, nor to curse that which allows me to get up each day without you.
I only pray that He grants you eternal rest and peace. And, that He grants me the strength to make it another year, another day.

I remember a conversation I once had with Kelsey about God.
She asked me how God could hear the prayers of the whole world all at once.
I told her that being God, He was outside of our dimension of time. I even illustrated it which would really annoy her.
Since you are now with God, Kelsey, you too are outside of our time dimension.
Where you are there is no time. As centuries pass here, no time passes where you are. It is we who have to wait to be with you.
Each day without you seems like forever. But I will mark the days until I am with you again and I will wait.

I am having trouble sleeping again. That seems to happen a lot since you left us. I was up praying for your dear, sweet mother, brothers, and extended family. But especially your mother. 
And I thought to myself what a GREAT debt we owe to your loving mother, Diana. For if not for her, we would never have had the joy of having you touch our lives. 
Many people may not know that Kelsey was found dead in her crib when she was a small infant.
 Her mother, God BLESS her, heard the cries and came running. Diana, single-handedly, with ZERO help from anyone, began CPR. The boys couldn't help they were young. The boys were only in Elementary School. She continued CPR, ran to her car, and she continued CPR all the way to the hospital. She got Kelsey to the hospital alive. Due to her efforts there was NO brain damage.
It was discovered there was a problem with Kelsey's throat. Surgery was performed, and the abnormality was corrected. 
Due to Diana's brave and valiant service to her baby girl that night, WE were given the joy, privilege, and honor of knowing and loving Kelsey. And Kelsey in return graced us with her love.
So as for myself, I want to say to Diana, THANK YOU! Because of you, and YOU ALONE, we were able to watch that beautiful baby, grow up, and become the BEAUTIFUL, SENSITIVE, CARING, Young woman everyone who ever met her, knew and LOVED!
God Bless you Diana for that Beautiful, special gift. Words can never convey how grateful we are to you for that gift.

In the moments and days shortly after your passing, I could not find my way through the grief and sorrow to say these words and I know I say them for me since you must already know my feelings and thoughts by now.
I see your face everywhere in everything and everyone. When I can bear to gaze in a mirror, it is your eyes I see peering back at me. Of course they would be. Those are the eyes I gave you, those unmistakable Rodriguez eyes, sullen yet piercing. Any Rodriguez related to you has them. Your eyes are the ones people mention most often. They are beautiful as you.
You are with me always. I pray for you every chance I get, quiet moment or not. Now I waste no time, I talk to God, to you and I pray to God for you with every breath, albeit, through this bitter anguish, I have to remind myself to breath all the time. But it is in those quiet moments that I feel you. You are my heartbeat. You were always my heartbeat.
Now, there are no minutes, no hours nor days. Only my heartbeat measures time. Only memories of you consume me always, awake or asleep. You are everywhere. I play the recording of your laughter as much as I can stand it. I watch your silly video clips. I read the love messages from all those who love you. Your slideshows are constantly playing at your memorial in my room and in our living room. They will continue until the appropriate time. I will know when, you will tell me. 
When it comes to be that you are no longer my heartbeat and time is no more, at that moment, I will be with you, see you and hold you again, my precious baby.
Until then, you are my heartbeat.
Until then, I am always thinking of you.
Then, we will never be apart again.

The days come and go. I feel like a watcher on the outside looking in. I go through the motions and do the things that must be done. And then the pain will hit me like lightening from the skies, and I realize once again you are gone. The pain from those first moments after I was told you were gone come flooding back. I feel like once again my legs will fail me. I realize that as life goes on, the world for you has ended. We know you are in a better place, and life for you is perfect. But for us, one of those very few perfect gifts from God is forever gone from our lives. Kelsey, YOU, were that perfect gifts. God took you home for reasons we will never know. We have no choice but to go on without you. As you watch over the brokenhearted left behind, please touch us, and give us that little push we need to go on. Your mom is struggling and she needs to feel your love surround her. Her world was shattered,like her heart, when she lost you. She desperately needs to feel your love. I pray God will grant you the gift of touching your mother's heart and easing her pain. You were her world. Now without you she is left to try and live, to move on, without you. She needs strength from above to do this. May God and you give her that strength.

Kelsey it has been a week since we laid your Earthly Vessel to rest. I know by then you were already in Heaven. I am so selfish, I just want you back here so BAD!! Your poor mom is heartbroken, and so am I. We talk every day. She has been so kind. She knows how much I miss you. I pray every night I will wake up and wish this whole thing was a nightmare. GOD I miss you. I get a text and I look and see if it is from you. It breaks my heart to know you will never text again. Know how much you mean to me. Love is the one thing that lives on for forever. Kels, My entire body is literally in pain from all this. I still don't believe it. I don't think it's true. You mean so much to me, if I could say anything to you one last time I'd tell you I'm sorry that we weren't as close as we used to be when we were younger, I guess it's normal to drift. But I love you more than you'll ever know, And I think about you non stop. Last night was a bad night for me. I hope you were watching me, feeling what I felt. i didn't know kelsey for very long, yet long enough to discover what a wonderful person she was.  to all of her family and sal, i send my deepest sympathies and prayers.

Kelsey, words can't even begin to explain how I feel right now. Everyday since I found out I keep thinking its not real. I guess because I still feel like I haven't lost you. Our wonderful memories together and your beautiful ceremony make me feel like you are still with me. Everything that I do, I have a memory to relate you with. The stanky leg, ketchup and mustard, deep conversations we had; this is how I will remember you. Kelsey, I am so glad I had the opportunity to take you to church when we were older. We really felt something in our presence while at Austin powerhouse. We felt God with us, and because of that I know you are with him now. I am glad I got a chance to go to church with you and we became believers together. It reassures me that you are in good hands now. There was one thing I wanted more than anything and that was to hug you one last time. I looked up to the sky called your name and I suddenly felt something around me. I knew you were hugging me back. :) well kelsey, I love you I will see you again.... and thanks for the heart message you left in the sky. Simply kelsey, simply amazing :-)

     Throughout eternity, all the words that can be said about a parent losing a child so tragically have already been said. However, I would be more than remiss if I would not have these words said over YOU.
For throughout all of eternity, if anyone was ever deserving of such words, it would be and would have been you, my precious daughter. And, anyone and everyone here with us today can bear witness to that. Amen!
For myself, your mother and your brothers, (Sami is too young to fathom or understand the concept of this) we would have traded places with you in an instant without hesitation that fateful morning. But that was not to be.
    In trying to make sense of what has happened to you, I have come up with this. 
Some say this was God's will. This was not God's will. God does not hurt his children and he does not take us by accident. This was a tragic accident. But He HAS made a place for you in Heaven and there you must be.
John 14:2
"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
We are left only to pray for you, my darling child and to cherish your memory and to have hope. You are now with God in Heaven. How could there be any doubt since you always had the purest of hearts.
But with all that, through this incredible pain, I want to scream and cry out to God. “Why? Why? Why?” However, I cannot curse Him and I dare not. I can only give thanks to him for the honor to have been your daddy. (I loved when you called me that). I thank Him for the joy of watching you grow up into the young lady you became and were still becoming. I thank Him for all of your memories.
We honor you, simply, through these collages, videos and brief words but baby girl nothing will ever be enough and we will honor you and your memory, always.
Your passing must serve to bring ALL who loved you together once again or else your death would not only be tragic but meaningless. That cannot and should not be!!!
    Baby girl, hear my words now.
Throughout the remainder of our lives here on Earth, speaking for your family, your daddy, your mommy, Trey, Mike, Sami, Adrian, Celecia, Megan, Paulene and Xylina, you will be in our thoughts, in our hearts and in our prayers always. ALWAYS!
Kelsey, watch over us and pray for us, even as we pray for you.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful sister.  May God console your heart and your family the only way He can.  I can only imagine what you must be going through at this moment.
