Born in Los Angeles, California on January 4th, 1936, Kay was the youngest child of Vera G. Donnelly and James Cavin Donnelly or "Mike" as he was known to his friends. She grew up in Echo Park, California and was confirmed at St. Athanasius Episcopal Church in Echo Park. In the summers, she and her family would vacation on Catalina Island where in 1953 she was crowned Miss Catalina. She attended John Marshall High School and the University of Southern California. It was at USC where she met Wallace H Graner, whom she married on April 13, 1957. They have three children, Sheri Graner, Vernon Lewis and Walter James.
Kay leaves behind her children and their families; Sheri Graner and her husband Timothy Todd Ray; Vernon Lewis and his wife Kimberly Dawn and their two children, Nicholaus Kaven and Samantha Kay; Walter James and his wife Victoria Chapa and their three children Grace Marie, Jacob Blaine, and Daniel Rey; and Walter's two sons, Drake Alexander Correa and Tyler A. Correa. She is preceded in death by her father, James Cavin Donnelly; her mother, Vera G. Donnelly; and her brother, Dale Gledhill Donnelly.
Kay and Wallace worked side by side in the family's construction business for their entire 56 year marriage. In the summer of 1974 she and Wallace moved their family to McAllen Texas. There she enthusiastically supported their children's activities and events including Scouting, Bulldog Football and Band Booster, PTA and more. She gave to her community by serving as President of the McAllen Performing Arts where she worked to bring Broadway shows to the Valley. In the evenings Kay loved to watch TV with Wallace and she especially enjoyed rooting for their USC Trojan's football team. Friends and family would look forward to receiving one of her beautifully hand-crocheted afghans as a gift for a wedding, new baby or other special occasion. She is loved and missed by all whose lives she touched.
