Kathleen Louise Van Ness

Kathleen Louise Van Ness, age 91, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Mrs. Van Ness was born Kathleen Torbett on November 29, 1921, in San Antonio, Texas to Bertha and Walter Torbett. The family moved to Austin where she graduated from Austin High School. Kathleen went on to work for the Internal Revenue Service for 35 years. She loved to travel, dance and visit with her many friends.

She married Joe Van Ness in 1951 and had one daughter, Gail. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Van Ness, her parents, Bertha and Walter Torbett, and her brothers, Gene and O.B. Torbett.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail McCullough, her grandchildren, Trent and Nicole Chastain, her great-grandchildren Jordan and Dylan Chastain, and Trent’s wife Lona. Special thanks to our amazing caregivers, New Century Hospice and our caring physicians and nurses.

In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family suggests donations be made to Animal Trustees of Austin, 5129 Cameron Road, Austin, Texas 78723.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Saturday, the 27th of July 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Sunday, the 28th of July 2013, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
