Katherine Agnes (Hintz) Trybula of Austin, TX went home on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the age of 79 in her third year of battling breast cancer. Kathy was the first born to Ed and Kay Hintz on August 15, 1943, in Chicago. Her family moved to Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin when she was 8. After high school, she went back to Chicago for nursing education at St. Anne’s Hospital where she earned her RN. She met Walt, her husband, in March 1963. They were married in August 1964.
The family moved every three or four years – when the windows got dirty. In the course of their journey,
Kathy worked at various hospitals with some of them being leading edge treatment facilities. When they were in Connecticut, Kathy worked in one of the first hospitals treating AIDs patients when nothing was known about the transmissivity of the disease. In their second time moving to Charlottesville, Kathy worked at the University of Virginia Medical Center, a teaching and research hospital. She was part of a team that set up an experimental cardiac care floor, which has become the standard today.
They moved to Austin for a planned five-year stay, 30 years ago. Since his work provided for a lot of travel and there being no teaching hospital in Austin, Walt convinced Kathy to retire from nursing. Kathy became involved in numerous volunteer activities. She was involved at the Santa Cruz Catholic Church in Buda from the old stone church until after the dedication of the new church in 2000. This volunteering continued at the St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Community with special emphasis on the Food Pantry helping those in need and the Cook & Bake ministry. Among many of the outreaches of the Cook & Bake ministry was the strong support for the SafePlace organization.
Kathy is survived by her husband Walt, her children Michael (wife Renee), David (wife Jill) and Kitti (husband Steve Boesel), and her grandchildren Justin Trybula, Aaron Trybula, Katie Boesel, and Kale Boesel. She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Kay Hintz and her brother Ed Hintz Jr.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic Church at 10:00am on Friday, June 2. The Mass will be live streamed via https://www.st-ignatius.org/live. Rosary will be at the church starting at 09:30am. In place of flowers, please donate to the Food Pantry of your choice or Hospice Austin. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the support of the members of our Hospice team.
