Karen worked as: a Bus Driver for Albert P Brewer Developmental Center in Mobile, Al; a Store Manager for the Base Exchange at the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile, AL; a Store Manager at the Exchange at Otis Air Force Base in Cape Cod, MA; a Store Manager at the Exchange at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, NJ; a Store Manager for the Shoppette at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, TX; Office Manager for Meier Business Systems in San Angelo, TX; Owner/Operator of San Angelo Furniture Leasing in San Angelo, TX; and Department Manager at Walmart in San Angelo, TX.
Karen was actively involved in porcelain doll craft and won many awards for her dolls.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Olvin Hancock and Vivian Ivola Calvert Hancock; sister, Joan Wisner; and brother, James “Larry” Hancock (Betsy)
Karen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dennis Kalec; daughter, Vivian Leigh Kapito (Bruce); son, Robert Ed Sturdivant (Dee Ann); son, Dennis Joseph Kalec (Lizann), daughter, Jennifer Mathis; son, Jeffrey Kalec (Debra); sister, Elaine Bullock; sister, Lorraine Enke (Harold); brother, Keith Hancock (Traci); grandson, Chase Howell; grandson, Nicholas Mathis (Roderica); grandson Josh Kalec; granddaughter Emily Kalec; great granddaughter Mia Mathis; great granddaughter Madeline Mathis.

Graveside Service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78209 on January 4th, 2024 at 2:15PM.
