Julie Goss

before her 98th birthday on June 20. Julie was born in 1918 in Buchanan, New York to the late John and Elizabeth Jenerose. She was the oldest of four children, two brothers Anthony and Frank both deceased and a sister Rosalie. She was married for 37 years to her high school sweetheart, George Henry Goss who died in 1980.

Julie worked at Western Union during the war and when her children were in school, returned to work at IBM where she was the Executive Secretary to the

think tank of men who are credited with inventing the computer. Unknown to her, Julie was a part of the team that changed the world. She retired from IBM in

1973 and with her husband traveled Europe. In 1980 after his death she moved to Los Angeles to be near her children and in 1990 moved with them to Austin, Texas, where she was one of the original residents of “The Island at Lake Travis” an Independent Living Community on Lake Travis. A natural and inspiring organizer, Julie was the resident musical director at the Island and the founder of the community’s band in which she also played the accordion. Under Julie’s leadership, the band made frequent appearances at many senior residences. She also created, led and played piano for weekly sing alongs for the entire community. In addition to her lifelong love of music – she played the piano from age 7 up until the week before her death – Julie was also a talented artist. She left a collection of over 25 paintings that received showings in a number of places in Texas. Julie loved travel and from 1980 thru 2010 she traveled to almost every part of the world.

A loving and celebrated mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great friend to many Julie is survived by her son, Michael and daughter in law Annie, her daughter Tracy, Sheila Reid who she considered her second daughter along with Sheila’s family Deborah, Grant, Christi, Samantha and Josh Reid, four grandchildren - Matthew, Caitlin, Alexandra and Isabella, two great grandchildren – Corbin and Ada, her sister Rosalie Moraitis and her sisters-in-law Georgiana Jenerose and Mary Jenerose and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Julie’s life will be held at a later date in the Montrose/Buchanan area.
