Judy Ann Day

Judy Ann Day, age 88, passed away on September 24, 2024. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Day, her brother and best friend, Mike Cox, and her beloved parents, Ann Merlo Cox and Aubrey Cox. Her parents instilled in her the love of life, her gift of logic, and her love and respect for God’s beautiful gifts of nature. She was happiest surrounded by a grove of golden aspens.

Judy was born on July 11, 1936 in Austin. She attended Austin High School and was in the first graduating class of McCallum High School. In January of 1954 she met Bill Day. They dated for three months and married. They attended Baylor University for one year and transferred to UT where Bill completed his law degree. Their marriage lasted for 68 happy years. When asked how they stayed married so long, they would say, “You have to forgive a lot, but most of all, you have to forget.”

Judy loved her family with unconditional love and understanding. She had a wonderful and blessed life. The Lord lived in her heart and directed her actions. She was a true friend to all those who knew her. Judy had the ability to identify when someone in her life was silently suffering and she would find a way to step in and be their friend and advocate.

Judy had a gift for interior design and she volunteered for many projects. She was most proud of the renovation of the Old Millette Opera House to the present home of the Austin Club. She served as chairman of the interior design committee and was honored as Member of the Year for her service. Judy was the first woman in the club to receive this recognition. Her interests were many and her mind always inventive. She invented a water exercise device and applied for and received a patent on the product. Judy was a proud member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Judy leaves behind her loving daughter, Lisa Day Murphy and husband John, and the joy of her life, her grandson, Jake Murphy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gail Cox, her niece Shawn Cox Walton, husband Jim, their children Derek Walton and Faith Walton, her niece Dawn Cox Capra, husband Glen, and their children Anthony Capra, Anamarie Capra North and husband Wade, and Audrey Capra Schnitz and husband Gage.

The family would like to thank Dr. Shawn Chen for his expert medical care and personal attention. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Belmont Village, West Lake Hills, for their exceptional and compassionate care for Judy.

A Celebration of Life for Judy will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752. Graveside Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.
