Judy L Gillean Blair was born Judy L Gillean in Paris, Texas on March 14, 1944. The eldest of two daughters to parents Dorothy and Roscoe L Gillean. After spending her early childhood in Stamford, Texas she moved to Big Spring, Texas in 1954. After Big Spring HS, she left home to attend then Southwest Texas State University.
In 1967 she married Stephen Blair, also from Big Spring, and eventually settled in south Austin and raised two sons.
For a period of time, she worked as an elementary teacher for Dripping Springs I.S.D. in the migrant program, which focused on teaching students whose families were traveling agricultural workers. Judy later spent many years as an interior decorator at Interiors of Austin, and later went into business for herself as an interior designer. This was a talent and passion that continued throughout her life and could be seen through anything she touched.
Judy was an avid reader. She enjoyed the beauty of fashion. She regularly took walks with friends and family, tended her lovely gardens, and marveled at the birds coming to feed and often finished the day watching a sunset.
If the test of life is always being kind to others, she passed with flying colors. Throughout her life, she made many, many good and true life-long friends. She was a good listener and an engaging conversationalist. Judy was blessed with beauty and a genuine goodness and warmth that was felt by all who knew her. She was a joy to be around and loved to dance.
As a mother, she always put her children first, no matter what. She attended all of her sons' extra-curricular activities and volunteered her time to help with school functions. Her role as a mother often extended beyond her own children to others near and dear to her. In her later life, her grandson, James, brought her the greatest of joy.
Judy is survived by her two sons, Scott and Tyson Blair of Austin; a daughter in law, Ava Blair and grandson, James Blair of Austin; a sister Jeanie Moore and husband Alan of Dallas; nephew Brandt Hamby and wife Mary Ann, grand-nephew Hogan, grand-niece Rachel, grand-nephew Brock of Dallas; niece Jami Barringer and husband J.B., grand-niece Jayden, grand-nephew Jace of Jacksonville, Texas; and other family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Ave., Austin, TX 78704.
