Juanita Lara Peralta born May 28, 1959 departed on May 16, 2013. Juanita, known affectionately as "Jina," was the wife of Francisco A. Peralta for 32 years, and mother of Abran F. Peralta, Sara F. Peralta, Samantha A. Redmon, mother-in-law to Sean Redmon. Jina was also the grandmother of Aidan and Keona Redmon. Her parents were the late Ramon and Irma Lara of Galveston. Jina is survived by her siblings Ruben Pescina, Rosie Morales, Barbara Alvarado, Ramon Lara, Jr., Lily Mugartequi, and Blanca Lara. Jina grew up in Galveston, and was a student at Ball High School before moving to Austin to attend the University of Texas (1977-1980) as a National Merit Scholar. She was a dedicated Christian, voracious reader of great literature, lover of art and film, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Jina was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church, worshipping at the Quarries campus. Those who knew Jina recognized her outgoing personality, where she could make friends while just standing next to you. She also loved to cook, and was a history buff. Jina also loved her dogs, Bonnie and Bruno, and her cat Nene. These creatures brought joy to her, just as she brought joy to our family. In lieu of flowers, we ask for gifts in her honor to World Vision, an organization she cherished for years: http://support.worldvision.org/goto/jinap
