Jessie Joyce Griffith passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 in Cedar Park, Texas. Joyce was born on March 5, 1925 at Parker County in Dennis, Texas to Minnie Emily (Musick) and Jesse James Whitmore, one of seven siblings. Growing up during the Great Depression era, her family moved to Greggton, Texas in the early 1940’s. It was in Greggton that she met married the love of her life T.W. Griffith. They were happily married for 60 years and had two children and seven grandchildren.
Joyce was a homemaker and devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to the family. One of Joyce and T.W.’s greatest joys was to explore the state together as weekend campers with fellow members of the Starcraft Camper Club. Joyce’s interests included square dancing, line dancing and clogging. She taught classes to other senior citizens and they would entertain at some of the nursing homes. In the 1960’s and 70’s she painted with oils and she always enjoyed playing solitaire with her old worn deck of cards.
Joyce is preceded in death by her brothers Johnny James Whitmore (2009) and Tommy Lane Whitmore (2011); sisters Marguerite Piercy and Beryle Simpkins (2010); husband T.W. Griffith (2003).
Joyce is survived by her son T.W. Griffith Jr and wife Patsy of Cedar Park and John Gregg Griffith and wife Tracy of Arlington; her sister Anna Faye Phelps and brother Deward Whitmore; and grandchildren Robert Eppolito, Jessica Rodriguez, Michael Eppolito, Steven Griffith, Fletcher Griffith, Lori Eppolito, and Carrie Griffith.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas.
Military Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
