Born October 3, 1930 in Hallettsville, Texas, Joy loved her family and friends and was "a special angel" to all, including the wildlife and strays in Highland Hills. Her love for God's creatures, great and small, was unequaled. She will be remembered for her beauty and kindness, her positive attitude and her strong faith in Jesus.
After graduating from Hallettsville High School, Joy became a registered nurse and clinical laboratory x-ray technician before she moved to Austin. She married Jerald "Doc" Senter in 1959 and remained his devoted wife for 48 years, caring for him throughout his terminal illness.
A member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church since 1960, ¬¬Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jerald R. Senter, her parents, Helen and Arthur Mertz and her step-son, Scotty Senter. Joy is survived by her sister, Rose Jeanette Litzmann of Hallettsville; nephew, Larry Litzmann; niece, Lisa Brosch; step-sons, Jerry Senter of New York, Mike Senter and Sandy Senter of Austin and daughter-in-laws, Kathleen, Cecelia, Truda and Rita. She was a special grandmother to Shannon, Brittany, Sarah, Andrew and Audrey, and great grandmother to Joe, Logan and Woods.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, June 19, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd, followed by a private family burial at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Joy's desire would have been to honor her memory with a contribution to the animal shelter of your choice or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Austin, Texas.
