Joshua Eli Barta, 38, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at home in Austin, TX after battling cancer for five months. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Ross, his parents, Jim and Sharon Barta, his brother, Silas Barta, and his fur babies, Simon and Mozzie.
Josh was a kind and gentle soul who loved animals. He spent most of his first date with his wife playing with her dogs and most of the rest of their relationship trying to convince her to adopt more animals. His other main passion was cars and could spend days just visiting car dealerships. He enjoyed friends and family coming to him for advice on which car to buy, he even got a little perturbed if you didn't consult him pre-purchase. Additionally, he loved camping, modern design, architecture, travelling, physics, astronomy, and just talking about the weather.
He was born and raised in Austin, TX attending Westwood High School. He moved away only to attend Texas Tech University where he loved Tech football and quite enjoyed reminding his Longhorn wife about that season they ruined UT's chances. He received his B.B.A. in Management Information Systems from Tech and his M.B.A. from Baylor University. Back in Austin he finished his career in public service working for Austin Energy where he was passionate about growing and developing a team of amazing people.
An Eagle Scout at age 14 he also enjoyed helping friends and family and his community any time he could. Computer and car issues were his forte, where he would not let a problem go without solving it, but would also drop everything to walk a friend's dog or bring someone food if they needed it.
He spent his last few weeks surrounded by so many friends and family who loved him every day.
Services will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1pm at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Austin, TX with reception at the church and burial at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery to follow. Don't worry, Tech has a bye week. Memorial contributions may be made to the animal welfare charity of your choice
