Josephine Drake McRee passed away June 23, 2008. She was born in Austin on May 19, 1936 in St. David's Hospital to William Sherman Drake Jr., former mayor of Austin and Eleanor Critchlow Drake. She attended Pease Elementary, Allen Junior High School and she graduated with the class of 1954 from Austin High School. She attended two years at Wheaton College in Massachusetts then moved back to Austin to attend The University of Texas to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Jody married Dr. Judson T. McRee, D.D.S. in 1957. She served as the President of the Junior League of Austin, on the board of Calcasieu Lumber Company and The Mary Lee Foundation. She enjoyed playing tennis, bridge and mahjong. She was a member of the Westwood Country Club. Jody and a group of friends met every month as the "Sewing Club" for over 45 years and another group of friends met as "The Garden Club". Her happiest childhood memories were the years she spent at Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas. Jody is survived by her son Judson T. McRee III, his wife Carla and their children Wagner, Mitchell and Rebecca; her son Paul Drake McRee and his daughters Hannah, Faith and their mother Jessica. She is also survived by sisters Peggy Graham and her husband Bill Hoermann, Elisabeth Drake-Maples as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jody was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bill Drake, sister Cary Drake Miller and sister-in-law Kay Bland Drake Oliver. Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 24th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held at Austin Memorial Park.
