Joseph Dietrich Strand died suddenly, March 12, 2011 at his residence in California. He was born November 27, 1956 in Flint, Michigan. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows School in Farmington, Michigan and graduated from Farmington High School in 1974. He joined his brothers in Austin, Texas in 1979 where he lived until he moved to California.
Joe was a loving and kind son and brother who lived a very giving life, bringing joy and help to anyone he might meet who he felt was in need. He truly believed in the passage “Whatever you do unto the least of my brethren, you do unto me.” He will be deeply missed. Joe was a unique treasure.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Harry S. Strand and is survived by his mother, Caroline H. Strand; 4 brothers, Thomas (Carolyn) Strand, Christopher (Kathryn) Strand, Matthew Strand and John Strand; 4 sisters, Alice (Roger) Jacobs, Elizabeth Strand (Dave Kettler), Ann (Philip) Mease and Catherine (Charles) Bennett. Also several nieces and nephews, and his special friend of several years, Marcella Pardo of Santa Ana, California.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at one o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 4th of April 2011, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 4311 Small Drive, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park, Austin under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church 4311 Small Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.
