Joseph R. Gibson

Joseph R. Gibson, 92, passed away peacefully, October 13, 2018 at the Live Oak Estates, Austin, Texas. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 16, 1926, and spent most of his childhood in Glover, Missouri. He moved back to St. Louis to attend Central High School and upon his 18th birthday in 1944, he enlisted in the US Army and became an infantry soldier in the WWII fighting in Europe. Afterwards, he stayed in the military and transitioned to the newly created US Air Force in 1947. At Kearney Air Force Base, Nebraska he met and married Dorothy Becker in 1949. His Air Force career included numerous postings both at home and abroad, culminating at Bergstrom AFB, Texas in 1969 where he permanently settled in Austin, Texas.

His wife, Dorothy preceded him in death in January 2018.

His three children, Joseph Ross Gibson of Leavenworth, Kansas, Richard Gibson of Argyle, Texas, Susan Gibson Jistel of Austin, Texas; and six grandchildren, survive Joseph.

Visitation 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home 2620 South Congress.

Graveside Service 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
