Joseph Lawson Gage, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2023. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Austin, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on July 24, 2023. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in Joe’s memory.
Joe was born on October 25, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. He was born to Leo and Barbara Gage. He enlisted in the Navy following High School. Joe was a WWII veteran serving in the South Pacific as a US Navy Pharmacist’s Mate 1st class, on the LCI 1074. He was a participant in the Southwest Honor Flight, Austin, Texas.
Upon completion of his military duty, Joe graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Saint Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He had a successful career with New York Life Insurance Company as a General Manager where he earned his CLU and ChFC designations.
Joe married the love of his life, Peg Scannell, and they were married nearly 64 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Peg. He is survived by his children: Kathy Breitzke (Carl) of Round Rock, Texas, Joseph Jr. (Sheryl) of Georgetown, Texas, Pegi of Denver, North Carolina and Tim (Carrie) from Holiday, Florida. Joe is also survived by grandchildren: Brian (Melissa), Lindsey, David, Griffin and great grandchildren: Harper and Lawson Gage.
Joe enjoyed his life at Longhorn Village, Austin, Texas and met many people including his special friend Clemmie Hext. He was known to many, and loved by all, a truly friendly face, who made friends wherever he went. Joe was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
