Johnny V. Nichols, age 69, passed away on Wednesday, the 19th of January, 2011. He was born in Elgin, Texas but was a resident of Austin, Texas for 59 years. Johnny was a veteran of the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He loved fishing, hunting, breaking and riding horses, working cattle and bailing hay. All his characteristics he passed down to his daughter Christina and his grandkids Julia and Jacob. Johnny was preceded in death by his father Joe L. Nichols. He is survived by his mother Willie J. Nichols, his daughter Christina Nichols Yough and her husband Nate Yough, his grandkids Julia and Jacob Downer of Spring, Texas, his sister Peggy Carter and her husband Lawrence “Zee” Carter of Mansfield, Texas, his brother Glenn Nichols and his wife Penny Nichols, four nieces and two nephews and their families. The family will receive friends from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Sunday, the 23rd of January, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Monday the 24th of January, at two o’clock in the afternoon at Sanders Cemetery in Elgin, Texas. In Lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family suggests that donations be made to American Cancer Society or Texas Oncology.
