Johnnie Frazier Phifer, age 95, of Austin, Texas passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025. She was born in San Antonio, Texas to parents John Bryant Frazier and Jessie Belle Egger Frazier on April 12, 1929.
She graduated from San Marcos High School with the class of 1947 and attended Southwest Texas State College (TSU). On January 1, 1949 she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator in Austin, where she met George Anthony Phifer. George was from Milwaukee, Wisconsin serving with the 27th Fighter Wing/USAF at Bergstrom Air Force Base. They were married in Austin at St. Mary's Cathedral and enjoyed a long and happy life together for almost 68 years. It was always a comfort that they grew old together - a perfect partnership.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Ruth Heickman, Eloise Compton and Imogene Ivy.
Survivors are her daughters Georgia Kay Johnson (Ron) and Christine Houghton (Jon), her sons William Bryant (Janis) and Craig Anthony Phifer (Cheryl) and seven grandchildren, Christopher Johnson (Shelley), Beth (Tony), Jessica Hake (Kevin), Ryan Houghton, Anne Daley (Mike), Dr. Olivia Phifer-Combs (Neil), Grant Phifer (Madison), twelve great-grandchildren, and sister, Helen Mutschlenchner.
Johnnie's interests outside the home were genealogy and current events. She was a long time member of Austin Colony Chapter National Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as Registrar for 16 years. Johnnie also served on a Grand Jury as Grand Jury Commission and belonged to the Travis County Grand Jury Ass'n.
Johnnie was genuinely loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
