She was the widow of the late Bonner McLane, Austin advertising executive and longtime executive director of the Texas Association of Broadcasters.
Born in Amarillo, Mrs. McLane attended West Texas State College (now West Texas A&M University) and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin. She joined the staff of the Austin American-Statesman in late 1948. She initially reported for the newspaper while attending classes at UT, then continued to work there until the birth of her first child.
During the 1960s and 1970s, she was employed by the Austin Independent School District as editor of a newsletter for school employees and patrons.
Later, she worked with her husband at McLane Marketing Associates as a copywriter and magazine and newsletter editor. She sold the business after he died in 1987.
She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William John and Fay Cresens, and three sisters, Maxene, Maurece and Mabel Ruth.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth McLane of Pearland, a son, John Bonner McLane Jr. of Austin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, September 25, 7-9 pm, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, Saturday, September 26, at St. George's Episcopal Church, 4301 N. IH-35. Burial will be at Austin Memorial Park.
