J.P. was born in Lamesa, Texas on January 7, 1944 to Dr. G.D. and Lucille Stallworth. He passed away peacefully on March 30, 2017. When he was 6 months old, his parents moved to Austin. He graduated from Austin High School and attended Texas Tech University. Early in his working career he entered the real estate business and soon had his own office, Stallworth and Company Realtors. J.P. spent almost 40 years in this business and volunteered his time at the Austin Board of Realtors, becoming the President of the Board in 1981. Through the years, he had several cherished agents working with him, the most recent of which were Karen Rima, Alison Street, Kathy Caskey, and Nancy Jones.
In 1979, he married Cheryl Sutton and in 1983 they had a son, John Driskill Stallworth, followed by a daughter, Sutton Leigh Stallworth, born in 1985.
J.P. was a social creature who loved spending time with his friends. His best times were spent with people who stopped by his office to sit and visit, or with a friend on the phone, chatting about all subjects, for hours sometimes. During the years that his son Driskill was in scouting, J.P. loved to camp and take summer trips to Colorado. He also enjoyed the trips for Sutton’s piano competitions.
Following a surgery in 2013, J.P. was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and the illness became very pronounced at that time. Before entering Arden Courts in January of this year, J.P. had a wonderful assistant, Matt Mulconrey, who we could not have done without. Matt and J.P. clicked instantly, and the time he spent with J.P. was so helpful to the entire family. We also want to express our heartfelt appreciation to Arden Courts, Kendred Hospice, and also to Mike and Bobbie Jobe, the greatest support team in the world.
J.P. was preceded in death by his parents and his cousin, Robert Wilder. Left to remember him are his wife, Cheryl, his two children Sutton and Driskill, daughter-in-law, Madeleine Bell Stallworth, granddaughter, Sutton McNeill Stallworth, his sister and brother-in-law, Sara and David Lord, his brother-in–law and sister-in-law, Emmett and Penny Sutton, and nieces and nephews, Field Sutton, Conor Sutton, Alden Sutton, Shelby Sutton, and Cameron Lord.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752.
In lieu of flowers, please consider gifts to Trail West Lodge Young Life Camp at 18800 Trail West Dr., Buena Vista, CO 81211, the Alzheimer’s Association, or your favorite hospice organization.
