John was born on October 15, 1935, in Hornersville, Missouri to William and Ruth Robertson. On October 12, 1957, he married Joy Ann Wallace from Kennett, Missouri. During their 59 years of marriage, they lived in several states ultimately making Austin, Texas their home.
John served as a Major in the United State Air Force for over 25 years. His most notable role in the Air Force was as a T-38 Pilot. He served as an instructor pilot and loved flying. After retiring from the Air Force, John worked for the State of Texas. But his love of flying was always at the forefront of his mind.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. John never met a stranger; he was a friend to many and was often referred to as Brother John by friends. He had a heart for service and was an active member of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church. He was a Stephen Minister, involved in the Methodist Men, and the Walk to Emmaus Community. He was always the first to offer assistance when someone was in need. If you knew him, you loved him. When John lost his precious Joy in 2017, his heart was broken. John’s faith in God was strong and in time he was able to enjoy his family and friends again.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Joy A. Robertson. He is survived by his daughters Lisa Whinery and husband Tom and Shannon Fritz and husband Roger; granddaughters Kate Upchurch and husband Caleb, Claire Whinery, Lauren Fritz, and Ella Fritz; great granddaughters June Upchurch and Violet Upchurch.
A Memorial Service is planned for 2pm Monday, July 31, 2023, at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service.
