John "Stuart" Pace, age 50, tragically passed away on May 26, 2023. Stuart will be remembered for his deep love of family, quiet thoughtfulness, and love of The University of Texas team sports and Dallas professional sports. Most of all, Stuart will be remembered as an adoring father and devoted husband. His family meant the world to him. Stuart was also a joyful brother, a faithful son, and a loyal friend to many.
Stuart was born in Dallas, TX, to Margaret Streckmann Arrington and Charles Wellington Pace. He spent his childhood in Highland Park in Dallas, TX playing all sports with his siblings Charlie, Holly, and Shannon. In High School, he narrowed his sporting interests to golf and as a freshman played on the varsity golf team for Highland Park's first state championship.
Stuart attended The University of Texas at Austin, and after graduating with a degree in Economics, worked at Forest City Real Estate in Denver, CO. However, his love for his college sweetheart brought him back to Texas, and he and Kathryn married in 2007. Their son Tatum was born in 2008 and their daughter Kaylee was born three years later in 2011.
In 2001, Stuart joined the State of Texas with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs and in 2009, the Texas Workforce Commission as an Auditor. After over 20 years of service, he was looking forward to retiring. At work, Stuart chose to start his work day at 6am so that he could be present for his children after their school day. He was thrilled to pick them up after school and be there for their activities. He loved to coach his kids in all sports, and he talked of being a coach in retirement, the perfect intersection of sports and working with children.
Stuart's joy centered on being present for his kids and following his favorite sports teams - the Longhorns, the Cowboys, the Mavericks, and the Rangers. It didn't seem to matter what the sport was, he was there for it and often knew more stats than anyone in the room. He cherished coaching his children's little league teams, exploring the outdoors, listening to live music, and having a passion for good food.
Stuart is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn, son Tatum, and daughter Kaylee. He also leaves behind his father, Charles Pace and Charles's partner Anne Collier, his mother, Margaret Arrington and her husband, Wayne, brother Charlie Pace Jr. and his wife Kendall, and sisters Holly Maxwell and her husband John, and Shannon Hewgley and her husband Abe, as well as many nieces and nephews. Stuart will be forever remembered for his loyalty, devotion, and genuinely good heart. May he rest in eternal peace.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:00am in honor of Stuart's life on Friday, June 2nd, at All Saints Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. Go to http://allsaintsaustin.org/pace to access the livestream.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to organizations supporting mental wellbeing support and awareness.
