He is preceded in death by his parents, Tranquilino Cantu Medina, Sr. and Maria De La Luz Castro Medina; his brothers, Domingo Castro Medina, Sr., Tranquilino Castro Medina, and Anastacio Castro Medina, Sr.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patsy D. Medina; his two daughters, Deborah Delgado and Esmeralda Medina Fuentes with son-in-law David V. Fuentes; siblings, Emiliano Medina, Juanita Perez (husband Manuel Perez), and Elojio Medina; sister-in laws Sandra Medina and Nancy Medina; grandchildren, John Robert Delgado, Vanessa Luna (partner Luis Gonzales), David Anthony Fuentes (partner Clarissa Camarillo), and Amalia Marie Fuentes with future grandson Rodrigo Lopez; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Josiah, Makala, Damian, Nikoliah Cruz and Alayna, Alyzah, David Albert Fuentes, and Azaydah Fernandez.
John worked for the City of Austin Street and Bridge for over 24 years as a concrete finisher, where he retired. During John's retirement, he enjoyed fixing and refurbishing antiques with his wife Patsy and he became a caretaker of San Jose Cemetery maintaining the grounds for over 25 years. John's biggest pleasure was sitting at the table drinking coffee and watching his favorite Cowboy movies. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather known as Poe Poe and great grandfather. John will be dearly missed by his family.
The family would like to thank all the medical physicians who helped care for John in the last year and thank Altus Hospice who provided end-of-life care.
Visitation starts at 5:00pm on Wednesday August 24, 2022 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd with Prayer service to begin at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 10:00am officiated by Rev. Ruben Garcia of Betania Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are David Anthony Fuentes, Rodrigo Lopez, Jeremiah Cruz, Joe Medina, Anastacio Medina, Jr. and Domingo Medina, Jr. . The honorary pallbearer will be John Robert Delgado.
