John Oscar McWhorter, Jr. age 85 passed away July 18, 2008 in Austin, Texas. He was born on July 10, 1923 to Grace Leone McDougald and John Oscar McWhorter Sr. in Cross, Texas. John was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a grandchild. He is survived by his wife, Jodie Belle McWhorter; children, Michael Joe McWhorter and Carol McWhorter; grandchildren, Lauren Szekelyhidi, Andrew McWhorter and Jody Diane McWhorter; great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Helena and Joe; sister, Bonnie McWhorter Messer and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Capital Memorial Park in Pflugerville, Texas.
