John Joseph Gallagher died at home in the early morning of October 31st. John had suffered with Alzheimer’s for over four years and most recently was being cared for by Hospice Austin. In January 2023, John was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. In this last year, as a “member” of Town Square, he was loved and cared for by the staff, for which the family is immensely grateful.
John was the son of John J. Gallagher and Mary McCarthy Gallagher. He was born 1951 in Weymouth, MA and was one of four children including Louise, Bill, and Paul. He is preceded in death by his daughter Amy Gallagher and sister Louise Gallagher.
John will be greatly missed by his wife, Rosie Kanary Gallagher of Austin, TX as well as his daughter, Erin Gallagher, and granddaughters Kyra and Sophia Gallagher of Orlando, FL. John took great pride in being a Papa to his granddaughters who he loved with his whole heart.
John was a renaissance man. He loved being an Irish Catholic Boston boy. He worked as an accountant for Gilbane Building Company. He was an artist. He loved to play golf. He loved to renovate homes. And together with his wife Rosie, he traveled the world.
John leaves behind many wonderful memories that will be cherished forever by his family and all those that knew him.
A celebration of life will be held in Austin, TX on Saturday, November 4th, at 2:00 PM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home at 5416 Parkcrest. A second celebration will follow in Orlando, FL.
