John Sterling Etchieson, born October 18, 1947, in Dallas, Texas to parents James Leonard Etchieson and Ella Lenora Perigo, entered into eternal rest June 15, 2022, at the age of 74. John was preceded in death by his father and mother, and is survived by his first cousins Leta Laymon, Vic Smith, Myra Smith Berry, Sarah Marlow, Brian Etchieson, Cindy Davis, and Pat Perigo, as well as his Stepmother Sandra Waldner and Stepsister Jennifer Tabraham Waldner.
John was affiliated with the Better Business Bureau of Central Texas for more than 50 years where he was employed beginning in March 1970 while attending the University of Texas. He served as President/CEO of the Austin BBB from 1980 to 2003. John had a lifelong interest in Texas history, baseball, photography, and in collecting coins, Central Texas arrowheads, antique pocket knives, Texas stoneware, and antique fishing tackle which led to his making several hundred friends in cities across the United States, Canada, Japan, and Switzerland. John was the kind of person that he would give you his last dollar if you needed it. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
